10 Ways to Bring the Spring 2014 Colors into Your Home

Have you ever wondered how or why a color is all of the sudden "in"? Ever been in a department store, trying to find something to wear to your husband's company dinner, and somehow in between yelling at your oldest to get out from the center of the clothing rack and picking up the Cheerios that your youngest just dumped all over the floor, you somehow break through the chaos that surrounds you, and for just a moment, you notice that you are essentially swimming in a sea of the same three (or so) colors? "When did this happen?" you might ask yourself. "And who is this color fairy that decides what these magical colors are any way?"

That magical fairy is otherwise known as PANTONE...the world-renowned authority on color. Each year, PANTONE releases a color report, which influences many of the designs you will see around you. From chairs to shoes, PANTONE has a heavy influence on what you see popping up in stores. For Spring 2014, ten amazing new colors have been introduced. As seen in the chart above, the colors have an energizing balance of subtle pastels and their bright, bold counterparts.

Because color trends are ever changing, I like to use them as accents in my home so that I'm not losing square footage by re-painting the walls every year. Here are some fun ways to bring the 2014 Spring Colors into your home...

Placid Blue

Give your sofa a new look by adding a few new pillows...or save yourself some money and just buy new covers to fit your pre-existing pillows.

Violet Tulip

A well lit room is a must for me. Maybe it's the dreary Oregon days, but I can't stress enough the value of a well lit room. Try adding a new lamp to your end table, or find a can of spray paint in your favorite hue, and give your old lamps an entirely new look with a fresh coat of paint.

Hemlock

Floors are easy to overlook, but don't forget the importance of rugs. Not only do they give you an option for a splash of color, they warm up a room and are easily changed out.

Paloma

I myself am looking at bringing a little Paloma into my life via this gorgeous duvet comforter set from Amazon.com.

Sand

Bring in the color of sand with some hurricane candleholders from Crate&Barrel.

Celosia Orange

Need a place to hang your coat? Purse? Apron? I'll find any excuse to put this gorgeous Celosia Orange bull in my house.

Radiant Orchid

Radiant Orchid

I realize that putting an "in" color on furniture is kind of like putting it on the walls; however, if an "in" color happens to be a color you already love any way, then I say Go For It! This sofa would be a lovely addition to our very colorful Bonus Room.

Dazzling Blue

Need a place to set your coffee? These porcelain garden stools are a great way to add some color to a room...or a patio!

How do you feel about the new Spring colors? Do you see yourself using any of them in your own home? If so, which one (s)? I'm thinking I could use some Placid Blue, Dazzling Blue, Violet Tulip and Radiant Orchid on my back deck.
