TFD Does Texas

TFD Does Texas

If you follow TFD on facebook, then you know that I recently took a quick trip to Austin, Texas. While there, I had big plans to finally visit Junk Gypsy World Headquarters. This was my second trip to Texas in hopes of visiting, and unfortunately it was my just that...an attempt. My friend and I rented a car, drove out to Round Top, pulled through the beautifully rusted winged heart gate, and stepped out into the hot Texas sun. My heart was happy. I was giddy with excitement-that is, until, we stepped up to the front door, and found it locked! You see, Junk Gypsy World Headquarters, along with the entire town of Round Top and Warrenton, Texas are only open Thursday-Sunday. And that, my friends, is no exaggeration. There was not a soul to be seen, a restaurant to be smelled or, in case you were wondering...a place to pee. A mere ghost town if you will. So, we did what any desperate shoppers would do. We stood at the doors peeking in like the woman on the old Mervyn'sTV commercial with our foreheads and fingertips pressed to the glass, inner voices chanting, "Open, Open, Open!"

After sitting on the front porch for a bit, letting our disappointment sink in, we decided it was high time we find a ladies room and some BBQ. Did you know, by the way, that Texas doesn't believe in toilet seat covers? Strange.

After binging on pulled pork, beans and slaw, we headed back to town, stopping at a place that had caught our eye on our trip out to nowhere. A place called Old World Antieks sat along the highway and was calling our names.

This place was nothing short of amazing. There were buildings upon buildings of rusty old treasures and well done reproductions. I snapped a few pics on my phone to share the love with you guys. So enough of the chitty chat...let's get you some eye candy!

While I would have loved to take any of these heads home with me, I'm fairly certain they would have put my suitcase over the 50 pound limit.

They had some really great lighting available, and some buckets and baskets that would be perfect for some DIY lights (see below).

I don't know that I have ever visited a place with so many great finds. There were rows and piles and stacks of treasures! And the best part of all? All of the employees were the nicest, most helpful people around. I may not have gotten to visit the Junk Gypsy World Headquarters, but I'll tell you what, Old World Antieks more than made up for it!
